Purple Heart Recipient Marcus Mason being interviewed by reporters at Communities In Schools Memorial Day celebration
Some 750 students at Joseph Stilwell Military Academy of Leadership honored U.S. veterans and military members for Memorial Day. Purple Heart recipient Marcus Mason spoke with the students, who held up 1,600 American flags with the names of Jacksonville veterans to honor the sacrifices of local men and women.
Communities In Schools of Jacksonville hosted the event as part of its AmeriCorps VetSuccess program — an initiative that connects military-dependent students with positive veteran and military role models who help them both inside and outside the classroom.
